A stunning location
Smarden is one of Kent’s most picturesque villages, often described as one of the prettiest in the county, and it’s easy to see why. With its historic timber-framed buildings, wide village green and friendly, laid-back atmosphere, it offers a quintessential English countryside experience that feels both peaceful and welcoming.
At the heart of the village you’ll find a well-regarded pub, local tearooms and independent shops, all within easy strolling distance. Life in Smarden moves at a gentler pace — perfect for morning walks, leisurely lunches and evenings spent soaking up village charm. The surrounding countryside is ideal for walkers and cyclists, with rolling farmland, footpaths and quiet lanes leading out into the Kentish Weald.
Smarden also makes a brilliant base for exploring wider Kent. Historic towns such as Tenterden, Cranbrook and Rye are close by, offering boutique shopping, antique centres and excellent places to eat. Vineyards, castles, National Trust gardens and sandy beaches along the Kent and East Sussex coast are all within easy reach, making it just as suited to adventure-filled days as it is to slow, indulgent breaks.
That said, when you’re staying at The Bell House, you may find very little reason to venture far at all. The house itself is a destination in its own right — a place designed for relaxation, celebration and quality time together. Whether you’re lounging by the heated pool, enjoying long meals outdoors or settling into the cinema snug, days have a wonderful habit of drifting by.
Smarden offers the best of both worlds: a beautiful village setting with endless options to explore — and a home so special, you’ll be just as happy staying exactly where you are.
